At low levels it's not worth putting points into but as your Healing skill gets high the next rank of healing might cost you, say 16 skill points, and only add 6 healing to Orison (rough number) where for 16 skill points you could get maybe 5 ranks in Divine Favor and add 15 healing to Orison.
Plus there's some skills that double divine favor's effect.

If you dont have divine favor maxed along healing prayers your not a healer. Maybe a backup but not a primary. Divine Favor makes a BIG difference in healing even as small as it sounds. This is mainly for pvp reasons. For pve just have healing prayers maxed and a few in divine favor.

Use both... and Wow! Perfectionate healing... max attribute by points is 12... you can then add more by runes/helm... it's incredibly usefull for protection monks too... making their protection spells heal by a bit as well...

I additionally must point out that Divine Favor is linked to some very useful skills, that can greatly increase your effectiveness and durability.

Divine favor is an excellent attribute, particularly for protection monks. I love playing a prot monk with maxed divine favor, and running divine boon, and using reversal of fortune, and having it heal for ~110 HP, not to mention reverse the next damage hit. It's equally good for healing monks, for the same reason, but you won't see boon as often.

To repeat what everyone else has said, maxing out healing prayers will only use 97/200 available attribute points, and even before then you have heavy diminishing returns (1 for the first point vs 20 for the 12th point, but gains are still linear).

The thing to remember about Divine Favor is it's not just enhancing your spells like Orison of Healing. With ranks in DF, Healing Breeze will have a base amount it heals in addition to giving regen. My monk/war's healing breeze currently heals +16hp and gives +6 health regen. Any monk spell you cast will heal according to your rank in divine favor in addition to any healing it would normally do. Also, if you're smiting and you have Symbol of Wrath in your spell list, that spell will heal you according to your DF rank because you're technically casting it on yourself.
One other thing about DF, has anyone else noticed that the math involved is a bit off? 1 rank in DF gets me +3hp. 2 gets +6hp. 3 gets +10. 4 gets +13. and 5 gets +16.

Every point in divine favor gives +3.2 healing (rounded up or down, I'm not sure)

I no longer use helaing spell. After Ascending I got 12 Divne Favor, 11 smite and 8 Protection. I get 38 extra heal point from Divine favor alone. With divine Boon I get and extra 99 heal points per spell. So I don't need healing prayers.

Whenever this game rounds, it rounds to the nearest whole number (with 0.5 being rounded up). That's why the divine favor bonus goes from 3 to 6 to 10, that's 3.2 rounded down, 6.4 rounded down, and 9.6 rounded up. Although I'm not sure if it actually rounds the bonus, or just displays it rounded.

Divine Favor is good because it makes all your spells direct heal spells. With high Divine Favor, you can actually replace spells like Orison of Healing and Heal Other with Reversal of Fortune and Healing Breeze. In addition, you can use skills like Signet of Devotion and Divine Boon to greatly increase your energy efficiency.
